Posted by bowmanlamps in compact fluorescent.

A light is a light is a light is a light. Right?

Well, 70,000 years ago, you would have lit your hut with a hollowed out stone filled with moss and animal fat. Let’s be grateful our choices have expanded to using an incandescent, LED or compact fluorescent light bulb, with light at the flick of a switch.

Review the history of lighting through the ages at Wikipedia Timeline of Lighting Technology.  Visit a few side links and explore  kerosene lamps,  the Yablochkov candle, neon lighting and the first commercial sulfur lamp.  It truly does make interesting reading.
